Just for the record, Meridian Magazine is not canonized scripture and just because an author has the name "McConkie" doesn't make her writings doctrine. Why do Mormon feminists insist on elevating Eve and women to a superior position over Adam and males?

This article is completely ridiculous. In addition to her logic fallacies and self-contradictions, she extrapolates doctrine that doesn't exist.
My wife got this link from facebook and was fairly repulsed by the article. I'm glad she doesn't feel the need to feel superior to me as I don't to her. What's wrong with equality?
Equality, by the way, is still hard to argue in the context of plural marriage and the ability to hold the priesthood.

and yet the Church goes about blaspheming His way of life
In general, "the Church" to me means the 1st Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve, the Presiding Bishopric, Quorums of the 70, and PR employees. Who is blaspheming it aside from unrighteous members? I remember President Hinckley playing our history down but never did he denouce or decry it.

I know I personally won't be deploying any mass storage on btrfs for at least a few years. Heck I'm not even confident in ext4 yet for critical applications. ZFS is tried and proven but you're right, people are waiting around for btrfs. That's fine for the desktop but not the enterprise. I just suggested it because you could probably have more active involvement working on a BSD kernel than you would on linux.
Really long and asinine discussion on the future of polygamy and what you should be doing about it
I read part of that thread. You have an interesting thought about moving to Missouri now. Have you done this?
I know D&C 52:42 commands to build up Zion in Missouri, but subsequently a commandment was given by Brigham Young to leave Missouri for Utah. More recently it's been taught that Saints should build up Zion in their home countries. That is a specific command not to go to Missouri. I believe I'm supposed to be spreading the gospel in my local area as well, even though I don't live in a foreign country.
I personally would love to move to Missouri and live the law of consecration with the saints. I can't tell you how much I would love to leave the world behind and live in Zion. I feel like I am essentially biding my time right now. But I know it's not the right move for my family right now for financial reasons, and I do believe I'm choosing the right by staying where I am and being an example to my neighbors.
Thoughts?
ryanjkirk -1 points0 points1 point 2 months ago[-]
I think you're basically right, but I would add that most saints today are probably not ready to prepare their hearts and minds for that eternal law. I think the stepping stone to that is preparedness for the complete fulfillment of the law of consecration, and most are pretty far away from that as well. You don't hear a prophet talking about preparing for plural marriage because we're just not ready for it. But I think at some point that will happen.
I think it's safe to say that once people are ready and living the law of consecration, they will be much more open-minded to other higher eternal laws. In a sense, I think it's fine for them not to worry about it if it's going to give them doubts and fears. Milk before meat.

How about offering a recap on all that? I could not get through it. This site would be much better suited to that discussion. Maybe I'll go there and say that.
EDIT: nevermind. That forum is filled with the most annoying type of right-wing fundamentalist mormons I've ever seen. I would prefer them to stay far away from here.
2nd EDIT: that was quite the pedantic post ("stupid people") but you subsequently recovered. I still chimed in, for what it's worth.

Yikes. After being used to reddit, that forum format is utterly unredable. tl;dr.
Do you write modules/apps that integrate with ERP and MIS systems? I have managed several integration projects over the last couple of years and man, there is nothing I hate more than two vendors that are supposedly following the same spec but whose software doesn't work with each other. They both point the finger at each other.
In the end it's up to me as the PM to delve deep into the spec, even though I'm not even a programmer, so I can figure out who's right and who's wrong and make them fix it.
Tell me you're not one of those guys.

Know much about the BSD kernels? With linux slowing down and being less efficient, and zfs in the BSD kernels, I'm starting to think they're the future, especially FreeBSD due to the debian/kFreeBSD project. I bet there is more room for contributors in that space anyway.
What kind of software to you work on?
New Gospel Principles manual removes all references to Mormon Doctrine
I remember thinking the old Gospel Principles book had some incorrect information regarding the spirit world. I don't remember what it was exactly but I'm excited to check this out.

Maybe Reality Really Does Have a Liberal Bias
I like how black holes are somehow "liberal" and need to be stopped.
Secret Combinations
I think the operative word is 'secret'. Sure those small-scale petitioners may be "combinations" that are misguided, possibly evil, but they're obviously not secret, their goals are in fact the opposite. The best example I can think of would be Yale's Skull and Bones. I suppose if anything out of one of Dan Brown's annoyingly ridiculous books were true, that would qualify -- even though the secrecy is eventually unveiled, secrecy was required for at least a large part of the org's lifetime to accomplish its goals.
I'd say the US's love triangle of corporations / lobbyinsts / congress is about the most public a secret combination can get. We publicly know there is corruption, but we don't know the actual deals being made or the true extent of the corruption. Kind of like the Gadianton robbers. Obviously there's some secret combinations in the military-industrial complex as well but nothing else comes to mind. OP are you thinking of something in particular?

New addition to mission of the Church: "Care for the needy"
So the mission is still "Bring souls unto Christ" right? And the threefold, but now fourfold, pillars of this mission:
I like the emphaasis on caring for the needy but aren't we getting kind of granular here? Isn't that part of perfecting the saints?

The 90's was such a golden era it seemed. I remember back then learning about how the persecution would begin again some day in my D&C seminary class and thinking it would be a long way off. Didn't realize it would come so soon.

What should I do with modernsaint.com?
ryanjkirk [S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago[-]
Actually I changed my mind, I don't want to do it. You have to email cor-intellectualproperty@ldschurch.org because I read their T&C and they don't allow it. Assuming I get permission, it will be a ton of work to manage. I'll always have to be on top of the conference talks as soon as their posted and start seeding them and using up bandwidth. As long as the church is paying for a CDN (the Move player) they've consciously decided to forgo the P2P route. It wouldn't be difficult for them to add it their own site and they have much better resources than I do for seeding and maintaining the site. So, sorry, but no seedbox.
