cafe flora - IL
By Tehila at The Zion ListWhen someone says "coffee cart," there's almost 0% chance your brain conjures up anything close to what awaits you in Sde Moshe, a quiet moshav in Southern Israel.
You park the car and set off down a gravel road bordered by climbing bougainvillea on one side and open farmland on the other. It's a walk of only a few hundred meters, but by the time you reach Café Flora, its magic has already begun to take hold.
You're not entirely sure you're in the right place until suddenly, you are. Situated next to a small horse-riding stable, your eyes drift to the worn-in tables and chairs scattered beneath shade trees, a colorful old pickup truck begging to be photographed, and a handful of vendors selling books and handmade jewelry. Music plays, because in Israel, it always does. Only after you’ve taken all of this in, do you notice the coffee cart itself, tucked back among the trees.
On a Friday morning, you'll find Israelis of all stripes lingering over cappuccinos, fresh sandwiches, and the delicate pastries Israeli cafés are known for. Everything is strictly kosher, beautifully made, and worth the drive. But the food is only part of the reason people come.
Cafe Flora is the kind of place you visit when you're in no hurry, with nowhere else to be. You go to settle into the shade, listen to the music, watch the horses wander, and let the morning unfold.
A gourmet kosher café tucked among shade trees beside a horse stable shouldn't make any sense. But in Israel, it feels perfectly natural.
